Highway Department

The Highway Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and upkeep of the Town of Mount Hope’s roads, vehicles, buildings, parks, cemetery grounds, and several community programs.

Throughout the winter, the Highway Department is responsible for snow plowing, brush cutting, and keeping Town roads safe for residents and emergency services. During the warmer months, responsibilities include blacktopping, ditching, mowing, and other seasonal road maintenance.

The department also maintains and repairs Highway Department trucks and equipment, as well as Police Department vehicles, and provides maintenance and upkeep for Town buildings.

Additional responsibilities include duties and required training related to underground bulk petroleum tanks, organizing the Town’s Spring and Fall clean-up days, maintaining the Town’s two parks and Howells Cemetery grounds, and coordinating park pavilion rentals.

The Highway Department works to keep Town parks mowed, clean, and enjoyable for residents and also administers recycling programs for electronics, waste oil, rechargeable batteries, car batteries, used ink and toner cartridges, and yard waste.
